Nikon 8-15mm Fisheye Review

The review of the newest Nikon fisheye lens.  This new fisheye was released along with two other new lens and this one in particular will be my favorite and must have, the Nikkor 8-15mm Fisheye. The new AF-S Fisheye NIKKOR 8-15mm ED supports a zoom range of 8-15 mm range with a maximum aperture between f/3.5-4.5. Used on your FX body, the lens can produce circular fisheye images and full frame diagonal images, all with one lens when zoomed all the way out (wide-angle position). Zooming close to all the way in enables full-frame fisheye images with a diagonal angle of view of 180°. The best DX diagonal.... read more

Nikon WT-7

This is a write up from Don C who added an extensive "comment" to my WT-7 post/review. I though it was worthy of an individual post.

The remainder of this post is Don's comments: I decided to breakdown and purchase the WT-7a,..being that 1) I own a D500, and 2) I love to shoot untethered. Note, my forte' in the photography world is "Event Photography. That is, capture and print "onsite". It's 90% of my business model and every since the days of the mighty D2X and WT-2a, I've always admired the ability of "capturing and image and it instantly popping up on a display monitor" for customers to see, and of course, buy prints! Well, time has changed since those 'good old days' to newer 'good old days' of the D500 and WT-7a!

Nikon 600mm f/4 vs Nikon 400mm f/2.8

I have been a photographer for awhile, It has been a long wonderful road to where I am today in respects to my equipment and ability. DSLRs and modern manufacturing capabilities have put in our hands some of the most advanced cameras today, notwithstanding the super spectacular lens designs coming from makers such as Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Tamron just to name a few.   With so many choices out there it is no wonder we sometimes get wrapped around the axle trying to decide what lens to purchase.

Nikon 400mm f/2.8E ED VR FL Review

2017 update ...  the The Nikkor 400mm 2.8 ed fl is an exceptional lens known for it's flexibility and amazingly sharp images it produces. Lighter and more nimble and all the while retaining and improving on an already great Nikkor 400 heritage, this lens will bring to the photographic market a continued, appreciated, and highly sought after instrument. Unfortunately for me, to acquire this version I had to sell my VRII 400mm, yes this lens is even more expensive but I expect a long wonderful relationship together.

After many years Nikon finally did what Canon managed to do years before - produce a Perspective Control lens capable of  tilting parallel or perpendicular to shift, in other words it is awesome.  This will add one more to Nikon's  3 other Perspective Control lens making for a total of 4 PCE to choose from. With that many PCEs converging lines don't stand a chance.

Nikon 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens Review Read more

Nikon 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens Review

Nikon 60mm f2.8 AFS-S Micro-Nikkor Lens is a super choice for your first intro into Macro. You may find others who state they don’t recommend this lens as a Macro due to the very close distance you must get to the subject in order to achieve 1:1, about 2 inches at the closest focus distance (1:1). The lens needs to be 2 inches from the subject for 1 to 1.. I simply believe each lens offers a special interface between the camera and user. I use most all focal lengths of Macro/Micros. I agree a 200mm Macro will put distance between you and the subject but it also has it’s own drawbacks (you can read about it in my blog). I like a 60mm because there are sometimes I need both detail and more of the subject without lugging a 2 pound lens around. With todays mega pixel cameras, even if your not 2 inches from the subject you can crop (as most of us do) to get amazing details. Overall I am very pleased with the lens and look forward to using it more often.

A quick review of the Nikkor 16MM AF Fisheye. If you need drama in a shot or even extreme wide angle this is one lens that can add it.  When used wisely, this fisheye can make your photos jump off the page with impact.

Pros:  Very Small and light, focus is very quick as most wide angles are, built tough and withstands daily use, flare controlled fairly well for a fish  eye.

Cons: Barrel distortion as expected in a fish eye (this can also be a pro), some coma abbreviation, Sometime your feet are in the photo .

The Nikon WR system is a solid wireless accessory for serious remote shutter or flash use and works flawless with most Nikon DSLRs. I ran across this after a failed (cheap) attempt that stopped working after a few months. So, I decided to expend more time and money on a better product, I discovered Nikon remotes that allowed you to fire the camera from a distance, some offerings were wired but another one was wireless.  Perfect.

Nikon D810 the next edition Review

Well here we are, as I said I was going to wait on the next BIG release from Nikon before I upgraded my D800. Nikon announced a D810 trade up program and for me it meant lots of benefits considering my recent lens purchases. Maybe this was Nikon’s ploy to move these new D810s faster.

Here I am with a new D810 and to tell you the truth, it looks almost indistinguishable to my older D810.  This D810 feels like home with the exception of a few new button changes everything is familiar, the grip is kind of narrower and deeper giving it a different feel in the hand, your mileage may vary depending on your hand. I wished the grip was more like the perfect D700 grip I once owned, the D700 was ergonomically fantastic in the hand. I have a collection of D800 batteries and they are all compatible with the D810 along with my MD-12 grip. When I fired the 810 up I began to notice the differences, all are very pleasant.
