PROS:

Super Sharp across the entire zoom range with a fast 2.8 fixed aperture, Easy to work with and feels well balanced with the camera – best used on an FX-format camera body. Has nice weather seals and has weather seals at the mounting end of the lens barrel. Handles well with quick to focus and zoom that are both very smooth and predictable. This lens is made to be used in places that require shooting available light, like indoors, and the lens performs wonderfully in those situations! If you are a wide lens lover - this lens will not disappoint.

CONS:

Cost – at almost 2 grand as originally priced and still fetching high resell used prices. So it is not a cheap lens to own, but it covers the wide end very nicely. The weight of this lens is kind of on the heavy side but the results are worth it.  An obvious remark is the size of the very Large diameter front lens element and does not have a very secure way to attach the front lens cover, it just slides on - and with that front lens element unprotected - make sure you keep it covered when not in use.

Survivability - even a short drop to the ground will send this lens to the repair shop because I have personally experienced that. The other issue as mentioned is very difficult to introduce filters which is almost impractical to attempt. There are a few third party lens hood replacements

Construction: A mix of plastics and magnesium.  Magnesium is brittle and does not fair well to impact drops, thus why It cost me $600.00 in repairs when I dropped mine.  It is a solid lens, but the design is just not all that robust, and you need to remind yourself when the lens is in use.

Bottom-line: If you have a bag full of money and was contemplating a wide angle short zoom, then this one will fit the bill very nicely, it gives you the best of both 14mm and 24mm prime performance in a single package.  I love mine.
