Birds

Life is Good

Blessed are we who co-habitat our planet with the creatures who live among us. When creatures no longer flourish humanity will cease to flourish and we will become void of morales, values and worth.  Sacred are they and the environment for which we depend.

Wonderful are the birds. Today was amazing, super cold and refreshing to my spirit as I walked down the trail to a shooting spot.  Along the trail which meanders along a watershed, I noticed a beaver habitat and a fresh hole in the ice, telling me that Mr. Beaver is somewhere inside and probably came up for a snack.  Moving further down the trail I ran into a small flock of finches not seeing much else out that morning I choose to setup my shooting session.  In the location a couple of woodpeckers decided to join alongside the group of other birds and began working the tree for larva.

The larger Red Bellied Woodpecker flew in on top of the smaller woodpecker forcing him off to another tree. I only had a chance to fire off two shots of the Red Bellied before he took off, but the other Woodpecker was still in the area.  I adjusted my spot, and was happy to see the little fellow again about 200 feet going up a tree. If you ever had an opportunity to shoot Woodpeckers you know they have this nasty habit of staying on the "other side" of the tree or behind branches, blocking a good view - making your job more challenging.

It was all well worth the effort, cold, wind and all. Getting one photo makes it all worth while.

I live at the edge of the forest in semi-moist locations, I enjoy larva, and other delights. Although I am toothless and mostly warty, I am a sight to see.
